How often were you running trials - We have also experienced the same challenges and by varying the frequency of desensitization trials to meet the person's need we have seen quite a bit of success. Case in point, I work with an individual who formerly required general anesthesia for all dental procedures. Just last week she had her first dental appointment without any sedation at all - while it wasn't a total success as dentist was only able to use prophy tool for about 1 min. and no scaling, I see it as a success and a major step forward for this person. We started with daily visits to the dentist then gradually increased the procedures - sitting in the chair, putting on the 'bib', turning on the light, reclining the chair, brushing the person's teeth for increasing lengths of time, and now are attempting to introduce the person to scaling tools. Hope this helps.
