The Octob er 17, 2018 session is:
Title: Dignity of Risk: Ensuring Safety withou t Copping Out
Description: Dignity of Risk is such a catchy phrase but what does this really mean? In our everyday Team decision making, what is an appropriate amount of acceptable risk? What ar e the team responsibilities and when does encouraging independence and self -direction become a cop out that replaces responsible teaching? Is there a line that cannot be crossed?
During this one hour webinar, we will ex plore these and other questions, including how the presence or absence of g uardianship affects a person’s ability to take risks; how a person&rs quo;s capability level may affect a team’s decision making; and what role teaching plays in risk taking and teaching independence.
The pre sentation will also touch on formal restrictions and how due process goes h and in hand with a modification of an individual’s rights. We will re view how teams can be proactive instead of reactive in making dignity of ri sk decisions.
